2005 Season
Marin Team :: Game Report

Game Date:
Opponent:
Final Score:

April 16, 2005
DZ Foot
L 1-5
Report:It was a GORGEOUS warm spring day on Lucas Valley Road and McGinnis Park. The fields were lush, thick, and green. Our uniforms were slightly wrinkled (according to Adel) after a long winter of non-use, but ready to see some serious action again.

The Marin Spikes played their first game (finally) yesterday after the first 2 weeks were cancelled from the County and rain, respectively. Our opponent was one of the new teams in the league...DZ Foot, an all-Persian team. As really the first time we've all played together this season, our team performed very very well. We created many chances on their goal all game long. And considering we only had 11 gallant warriors, the stamina and resilience of our squad was commendable indeed.

The first half was a little weird for us as they got a fluke goal early on, and then seemed to carry that momentum to get a couple more. One of their goals was a pretty shot from just outside the box that floated into the far corner. But at the same time, we created our own very good chances. Both Jason and Adel created excellent chances that just didnt go our way, and we kept pressure on them more than they expected. Score at half was 0-4.

We regrouped at halftime and our Guest Star Coach Consultant, Karel of Norway, made some wonderful lineup suggestions that helped us alot for the 2nd half. We went with 3 forwards and dominated the play even more in the 2nd half; creating several excellent chances on their goal. We finally broke thru when Chris sent a great cross from the right side that Jay Higa ran onto and headed the ball over their goalie. Gorgeous! : )

They put one more in as well in the 2nd half, but our VERY SPECIAL GUEST STAR Goalie, John Kiladis, made too many wonderful and timely saves during the entire game to count for this fossil. ; ) GREAT JOB JOHNNY!!!

Our defense, led by Red Center, played well the entire game and another VERY VERY SPECIAL GUEST STAR, Carlo Togni, ran up and down the field like he was still 25 in that BAR team picture in 1990. ; ) AWESOME CARLO!!!

Everyone played extremely well in a very warm afternoon and with no subs to spell us. The front line of Jay, Chris and Adel created many chances supported by the midfield of Jason, Izzy, and yours truly. The final score of 1-5 didnt reflect the game at all and the number of great chances we created. We'll convert them more next time guys!!!

MAJOR THANKS TO OUR 11 GALLANT WARRIORS: John K., Ed, Carlo, Matt Irwin, Alan, Ismail, Jason, Adel, Chris Jansen, Jay Higa, and me. Congrats to Chris for his first Marin game and a hearty WELCOME! and Great Job! Also Special Thank You to our Coach Consultant Karel du Norway for coming out to watch, cheer, support, and lend suggestions. : )
