W 2-1
Report:We played our third Marin League game of the year this morning against San Geronimo. First half produced some of best soccer we have played in a while, as our guys totally dominated the game. We passed really well, and created lots of chances, but the inches was just not on our side. And we all know how important those inches are!

We could have been up by several goals at half time. We got a penalty after only 5 minutes of the half when one of their guys was called for a handball inside the box. Unfortunately for us, Thorsten's penalty went just outside their goal. Chris had a couple of shots that passed their goalie, but slowly rolled towards their goal, and was saved on the line by their defenders. Like so often in a game like this, San Geronimo took a lead on their first and only chance of the half. On a long throw in, one of their guys was left a bit too open and somehow managed to get the ball over our goal line. Matthew was on the ball, but it was ruled to have crossed the goal line. We kept on playing quality soccer and came close to an equalizer, when Thorsten's powerful shot hit their crossbar. 1-0 San Geronimo at half time.

Second half continued like the first. San Geronimo was a bit more in the game, but still our guys was dominating the game. We kept pushing for a goal, and Thorsten came close again after 15. min., but hit their crossbar for the second time. We finally tied the game 20 min. into the half. Thorsten was brought down inside their box, and Gilberto Chavez stepped up to the plate, and scored on a nicely taken penalty.

We kept pushing for that winning goal, but it just didn’t look like luck was on our side today. It took a spectacular goal to change all that. 10 minutes before the end, Thorsten was fighting for the ball inside their box, and the ball ended up bouncing in front of Ismael. With his back to the goal, Flashy Latina found nothing but the net on a great bicycle kick. 2-1 Spikes. San Geronimo pushed a bit at the end to tie the game, but our guys kept cool and composed to the end.

Final score: 2-1 to the Spikes

Again great team effort. We should have won this game comfortably, but this was a type of game the best team often loses in soccer. Our guys showed a lot of strength today. It would have been easy to let frustration take over when nothing seemed to go our way, but our guys stayed focused and kept playing and pushing for that deserved win. A win that should keep the Mo’s on top of the standings with 7 points after our first 3 games.

Our 16 players today were: Alan, Adel, Bob, Brian B., Carlo, Chris, Ed, Gil, Ismael, Jay, John, Karl, Matthew S., Rio, Thorsten, York
